Counseling

Counseling is a critical part of the healing process. We work with survivors and their loved ones to support healing, understanding, and thriving.

WOAR provides free, trauma informed therapy services to people of all ages who have experienced sexual violence, regardless of when the trauma occurred. Whether the trauma occurred last month or 30 years ago, WOAR works with everyone. To access counseling services for the first time, please call or text our 24-Hour Hotline 215-985-3333.

WOAR’s counseling approach is rooted in evidence based practices designed to support healing and empowerment.

WOAR provides extensively trained therapists who hold a master’s degree in psychology, counseling or social work and are also highly trained Sexual Assault Counselors. They utilize a variety of therapeutic practices to tailor treatment to each survivor’s unique needs. These include Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Additionally, they incorporate Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions, mindful strategies, psychodynamic case conceptualization, and narrative therapy to address the complex effects of trauma.

Recognizing the importance of expressive therapies in trauma recovery, WOAR offers interventions such as trauma-informed yoga, sand tray therapy, and trauma art narrative therapy. These approaches provide survivors with alternative avenues to process and express their experiences, facilitating deeper healing.

WOAR provides individual and group therapy sessions on a weekly or biweekly basis. Evening appointments for individual therapy sessions are available based on staff availability. Survivors seeking to begin individual therapy and/or group therapy can access services by calling or texting WOAR’s 24-hour hotline at 215-985-3333.
